![]() What form this new music will take remains to be seen… as does the matter of whether or not our virtual GHWT Nugent will pack a hunting rifle as well as a guitar. Not only is he offering up two songs for the game - 1975's "Stranglehold" (see below) and, according to the game's makers, an "original guitar duel recording" - but he will also be a playable character as well. TED NUGENT Original Guitar Duel Recording (N/A, 2008) The Song: Outspoken right-winger and guitar maven Ted Nugent may not be too happy about the way the presidential race is going right now, but at least he can take solace in the fact that he's going to be raking in a few bucks for his contributions to Guitar Hero this fall. The LP, Schrei (translation: Scream), went on to sell over 200,000 copies and even earned a partially rerecorded and expanded version a year later called Schrei - so laut du kannst (translated as Scream - as loud as you can). "Durch den Monsun" (literally translated as "Through the Monsoon") was the first single off of their first album, and it quickly made its way up the German charts upon release. No, Tokio Hotel are not from Tokyo, or from a hotel, but rather hail from Magdeburg. Which you might as well, since the band behind this song are Germans themselves. TOKIO HOTEL "Monsoon" ( Schrei, 2005) The Song: …or "Durch den Monsun" if you want to go by the German title of the track. ![]() The band's Adam Jones directed the video, which includes persons vomiting black fluids, the dissection of a small creature, and several other bits of oddness. Like many of Tool's videos, the segment for this song is memorable for its avant-garde sensibility. TOOL "Parabola" ( Lateralus, 2001) The Song: The final Tool track on Guitar Hero World Tour is "Parabola," which also comes from the album Lateralus (and is not to be confused with the song of the same name by the San Francisco punk band Jawbreaker - or with the mathematical term for that matter). ![]() When receiving the award, the band's acceptance speech included bassist Justin Chancellor thanking his dad for "doing my mom." Wonder if that caused a schism in his family? It was critically well received, and Tool scored a 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for "Schism" in fact. Billboard 200 albums chart in its debut week. That LP was the band's third full-length release, and hit number one on the U.S. TOOL "Schism" ( Lateralus, 2001) The Song: Our next Tool track is "Schism," coming from the 2001 album Lateralus. The song was nominated for a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy. They'll also have three of their songs included as playable tracks, starting with "Vicarious," a seven-minute meditation on the nuances of schadenfreude, specifically of the ripped-from-the-headlines variety - "Killed by the husband / Drowned by the ocean / Shot by his own son" and the like. Which may be why the makers of Guitar Hero World Tour are set to incorporate a venue into the game which was inspired by Tool's visual style as seen in their shows, album covers, and music videos. TOOL "Vicarious" ( 10,000 Days, 2006) The Song: Prog-rockers Tool have been described as genre-transcending because of their always evolving sound and experimentation with the visual side of musical performance. The track was previously available as downloadable content on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Fortunately, the song is also concerned with slamming guitars. The song is concerned with the little guy, or at least the English translation of the lyrics would seem to indicate that: "You spend a lifetime working to pay for your own tombstone / You hide your face behind the newspaper / You walk like a robot in the subway corridors" and so on. TRUST "Antisocial" ( Repression, 1980) The Song: Trust was a French hard rock outfit whose original lineup consisted of Bernard "Bernie" Bonvoisin, Norbert "Nono" Krief, Raymond "Ray" Manna, and Jean-Émile "Jeannot" Hanela - yep, a bunch of no-good Socialists! But that doesn't mean they didn't rock enough for Anthrax to decide to do a cover of their most popular song, "Antisocial," on the 1988 album State of Euphoria.
